Future
Plans
With four major buildings already established on the River Reserve site, the Historical Society has plans for developing two more in the 2011 - 2012 year - a school building and an archival research centre.
In April 2011 the old 'Sunshine' (1930s) block from Waitoki School was moved on site. The generosity of Life Member, Hans Van Duyn who transported the building at no cost to the Society, and the Racing Club, who gave a handsome donation as they closed down, made this move possible. Further money will be raised to cover the cost of re-instatement and refurbishment of the School building.
A 'modcom' building, in very good order was made available to the Society by the Rodney District Council and is to be converted into the archival storage and research centre. It is hoped to have the building moved on to the Museum site before winter. Plans have been drawn up to attach a specially proofed unit for storage, and to provide office space, research room and other facilities. Grants will have to be obtained to carry out this work.
